Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial

The Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial is located in front of the John W. Bizzack Law Enforcement Complex at the Department of Criminal Justice Training Center in Richmond, Kentucky. The original 17-foot-long, black granite monument was 3 feet 6 inches high and 2 feet 10 inches deep. It included five stainless steel panels that listed the names of Kentucky law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. In 2005, the Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation recognized the need to expand the memorial because it was near capacity. An additional wing was added on each side in 2007, increasing the space for names by 80 percent. The monument was relocated to a location that includes landscaping and a concrete and grass seating area that faces the memorial. The monument’s interior consists of polished stainless steel plates and custom lights, which allow a blue light to shine through each of the names. Positioned along the bottom are the seals of Kentucky’s six major police associations and the phrase “Blessed Be the Peacekeepers.”
