Virginia Beach, Virginia, Law Enforcement Memorial

The Virginia Beach Law Enforcement Memorial was dedicated on June 23, 2012. It is located on the Virginia Beach boardwalk, accessible to thousands of residents and millions of visitors. The location of the memorial was selected to allow for quiet reflection on the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers who have died. The memorial was created by Paul DiPasquale, the same sculptor who created Virginia Beach’s iconic statue of King Neptune. It features three police officers, sculpted in bronze, who represent the Virginia Beach Police Department, Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office, and state and federal law enforcement agencies. The officers have interlocking hands symbolizing their support for one another, and outreached hands extending help to the community. The monument is 19 feet tall and 10 feet wide at the base, with the officers being twice the size of an average human being. Monthly, individual plaques are displayed that provide details of officers killed in the line of duty during that month.
