The patch of the Edenton, North Carolina, Police Department depicts the town’s history. Founded in 1722, Edenton is the second-oldest incorporated town in the state. An 18th-century sailing vessel represents its history as an important shipping port during that period. Cypress trees represent an old legend in which 18th-century sailors deposited rum for luck before departing. The 1758 Cupola House, one of the oldest structures in Edenton, is on the National Register of Historic Places. The town logo contains a teapot for the 1774 Edenton Tea Party.
