The shoulder patch of the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) patch, colored black with light blue and yellow lettering, features the Great Seal of the State of Kansas (1861) in the center. This seal depicts a settler’s cabin and a farmer plowing with a team of horses, which stand for agricultural prosperity. A wagon train heading west, a herd of buffalo pursued by two Indians on horseback, the setting sun, a river, and a steamboat symbolize commerce. The 34 stars in the sky signify Kansas as the 34th state to enter the Union. From its inception in 1937, the KHP has lived up to its motto, “Service, Courtesy, and Protection,” and it remains steadfast in its commitment to serve the citizens of Kansas.
