The Yonkers, New York, Police Department patch features a royal blue shield bordered in gold. A golden emblem in the center combines the Yonkers city and New York state seals. Elements from the state seal include an American eagle with spreading wings perched atop a globe as well as allegorical figures representing liberty and justice. The shield in the center features a bust of George Washington—chosen to commemorate his leadership of the Continental Army near Yonkers during the American Revolution—with an American flag folded beneath. The city seal was created in 1872.
