Mobile County Law Enforcement Memorial
On May 17, 2018, the Mobile, Alabama, Police Department dedicated the Mobile County Law Enforcement Memorial. Prominently displayed in Public Safety Memorial Park in Mobile, the monument serves as a constant reminder of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their communities.
Currently, the memorial features the names of 35 officers slain in the line of duty, dating back to the year 1901. Every year in early May, the department holds a memorial ceremony to commemorate the adding of names of fallen officers who died while on duty the previous year. The ceremony is conducted in conjunction with the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial observance in Washington, D.C.
This memorial project was promoted by the Mobile County district attorney and local law enforcement chaplains and was funded by local private donors.
The FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin seeks submissions from agencies that wish to have their memorials featured in the magazine’s Bulletin Honors department. Needed materials include a short description, a photograph, and an endorsement from the agency’s ranking officer. Submissions can be e-mailed to leb@fbi.gov or mailed to Editor, FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin, FBI Academy, Quantico, VA 22135.
