The arrowhead was authorized as the official National Park Service uniform shoulder patch by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior on July 29, 1952. The sequoia tree and bison represent vegetation and wildlife, the mountains and water symbolize scenery and recreation, and the arrowhead signifies history and archeology.
