The patch of the Schertz, Texas, Police Department features the state flag, based on the national flag of the Republic of Texas from 1839. It has the same red and blue colors as the U.S. flag. Red, white, and blue symbolize bravery, purity, and loyalty, respectively. The "Lone Star" represents the qualities of a good citizen — fortitude, loyalty, righteousness, prudence, and broadmindedness.
