At the center of the Upper Southampton Township, Pennsylvania, Police Department’s patch is the township’s seal. The tree and vine represent William Penn’s treaty with the Lenni Lenape and reflect the original symbol of Bucks County. John Fitch’s steamboat also is depicted. A model of the boat was tested successfully on a creek in Southampton. Finally, the shield displays the coat of arms of William Penn, and the year 1685 marks the first mention of Southampton Township in provincial records.
