Established in 1957, the Upper Saddle River, New Jersey, Police Department patrols the 5.3-square-mile town and serves its 8,300 residents. The department adopted its patch, which depicts a photo of the Saddle River, in 1968. On either side of the image, the red cross symbolizes first aid, the lightning bolts represent communication, and the dive flag signifies the scuba team the department previously provided many years ago.
