The shoulder patch of the Banning, California, Police Department.

The patch of the Banning, California, Police Department depicts the region where the city is located — nestled in the San Gorgonio Pass between the snowcapped San Gorgonio (on the right) and San Jacinto (on the left) Mountains. In the middle, the sun rises through the pass over the city of “Endless Opportunity,” Banning’s motto. A ribbon across the base of the mountains indicates the year of the city’s incorporation — 1913. The city was named after Phineas Banning, a stagecoach line owner known as the “Father of the Port of Los Angeles.”
