Bulletin Notes
Law enforcement officers are challenged daily in the performance of their duties; they face each encounter freely and unselfishly while answering the call to duty. In certain instances, their actions warrant special attention from their respective departments. The Bulletin also wants to recognize those situations that transcend the normal rigors of the law enforcement profession.
While on an interstate responding to a separate incident, Lieutenant Corey Brooks of the Salisbury, North Carolina, Police Department saw a tractor-trailer hit the retaining wall and catch fire. Without hesitation, he ran to the truck's cab, where he found the driver unconscious. Lieutenant Brooks immediately called the incident in over his police radio but did not wait for assistance. He quickly pulled the victim out of the driver’s seat and over the passenger’s seat to free him from the burning truck. An unidentified female driver assisted Lieutenant Brooks in helping the victim to safety across two travel lanes to the opposite side of the road. As fire and EMS arrived on the scene, the man started to gain consciousness and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
